BRUNSWICK, Maine – For the first time since 2017, the Bowdoin women's tennis team will play in the NCAA Quarterfinals after defeating MIT, 4-0, in the regional final on Sunday at Pickard Courts. The Polar Bears (17-5) move on to play in Claremont, Calif., on May 20
th against Emory in the national quarterfinals. The NCAA Division III Championships will be hosted by Claremont-Mudd-Scripps from May 20-23.
Match Highlights
- In a tightly-played trio of doubles matches, Bowdoin's Caroline Stuhlfaut/Jamilah Karah took a 6-4 win before MIT claimed a victory at #2 doubles.
- Tied at 5-5, Suzanne Pogorelec/Cara Hung claimed the final two games to win a huge point for Bowdoin, 7-5, at number three.
- Zoe Sun earned a win by retirement at number six singles (6-1, 1-0, ret.) to give Bowdoin its second point of the afternoon.
- With four matches in the balance, the Polar Bears were able to take a pair of straight-set wins at number three from Suzanne Pogorelec (6-3, 6-3), and Bella Hartung (6-4, 7-5) at number five to close it out.
- The trip is the first to the NCAA Quarterfinals under head coach Ben Lamanna, and sixth overall (2008, '12, '14, '16, '17). Bowdoin will be looking to make its first trip to the national semifinals since 2016.
