Polar Bear Defense Too Much For Colby in Men's Lacrosse Win

WATERVILLE, Maine – The Bowdoin College men's lacrosse team used a stifling defensive effort to dispatch Colby, 15-5, on Wednesday night. The sixth-ranked Polar Bears improve to 10-1 (6-1 NESCAC) while the Mules fall to 3-7 (0-7 NESCAC).
 
Game Highlights
  • A pair of Chris Berry goals got the Polar Bears going in the opening moments of the game, as Bowdoin built a 4-1 lead after one period of action.
  • Two Patrick Fitzgerald goals keyed a 4-0 surge and Jason Lach added one before halftime to give the visitors a 7-3 lead at halftime.
  • Bowdoin put the game away with a dominant third quarter, rolling off seven unanswered goals, getting two apiece from Fitzgerald and Lach to push the lead to 14-3 heading into the final frame.

  • Robert Hobbs made 11 saves and allowed four goals in 56 minutes of action as the Polar Bear defense forced 21 turnovers on the day.
  • Cam Wietfeldt won 12 of 18 faceoffs for the Polar Bears, who posted a 60-27 advantage in shots.
  • Casey Ryan paced Bowdoin with a goal and four assists to go with a pair of caused turnovers in the win.
  • Patrick Fitzgerald scored four goals while Jason Lach added three.
  • Nico Schermer had two caused turnovers and two ground balls while Jed Hoggard had four ground balls to lead the Bowdoin defense.
  • Bowdoin reached the ten-win plateau for the fourth time in four years under the direction of head coach Bill Mason. He is the first coach in program history to win 10+ games in each of his first four seasons.
