Huge Second Half Propels Men's Lacrosse at Williams

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – The Bowdoin College men's lacrosse team poured it on in the second half, turning a close game into a 19-8 blowout of Williams on Saturday afternoon. The sixth-ranked Polar Bears improved to 11-1 (7-1 NESCAC) while the Ephs fall to 4-8 (2-6 NESCAC).
 
Game Highlights
  • Tied at 3-3 early in the second quarter, Bowdoin used a 4-2 surge, keyed by a pair of Patrick Fitzgerald goals, to take a 7-5 lead at the break.
  • Bowdoin opened the flood gates in the third quarter, scoring nine straight goals at one point, to run away from the Ephs.
  • Fitzgerald and Casey Ryan opened the third quarter with a pair of goals, before a Williams score cut the lead to 9-6 at 11:57 of the frame.
  • After that, Bowdoin took complete command, as a pair of Casey Ryan goals sparked the decisive 9-0 run, that also included three straight goals from Fitgerald, to put the game out of reach, 18-6, early in the fourth.
By The Numbers
  • Casey Ryan posted a ten-point game, scoring four goals and dishing out six assists in the win.
  • Patrick Fitzgerald scored six goals on seven shots in the victory while Jason Lach added two goals and two assists.
  • Jed Hoggard caused a pair of turnovers and scooped a game-high ten ground balls as Robert Hobbs made ten saves in 50 minutes of action. Alec Delgado stopped two shots in the final ten minutes of play.
  • Cam Wietfeldt won 9 of 16 faceoff attempts for the Polar Bears, who also got two caused turnovers from Brooks Kitchel.
