Williams Holds Off Bowdoin in Softball Doubleheader

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Williams College softball team held off Bowdoin in a doubleheader sweep on Saturday afternoon at Pickard Field. The Ephs (14-6, 3-1 NESCAC) won game one 11-7 before taking game two, 3-1, over the Polar Bears (9-13, 0-8 NESCAC).

Game One Highlights
  • Williams jumped out to an 8-0 lead, including a five-run fourth inning, but the Polar Bears wouldn't quit.
  • Bowdoin scored three in the fourth inning, thanks in part to a two-run homer from Reilly Parga, and then cut the lead to 8-7 with a four-run fifth frame, as Kyla Gary and Sydney Lang had two-RBI hits in the rally.
  • The Polar Bears could get no closer, however, and Williams tagged on three runs in the seventh to help seal the win.
  • Anika Ewert had two hits and two runs and a stolen base for the Polar Bears.
Game Two Highlights
  • Game two was a pitcher's duel as a Parga sacrifice fly game Bowdoin an early 1-0 edge in the first inning.
  • Williams scored twice in the fourth and added another in the seventh to build a 3-1 lead.
  • Bowdoin loaded the bases in the ninth with one out, but a strikeout and a groundout clinched the victory for Williams.
  • Sydney Lang led Bowdoin with a pair of hits while Kathleen Hester went 7.0 innings, scattering nine hits while striking out five in the circle.
Up Next
  • Bowdoin will look to get back into the win column next Saturday, April 12, when they travel to play a doubleheader at Hamilton College.
