BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Williams College softball team held off Bowdoin in a doubleheader sweep on Saturday afternoon at Pickard Field. The Ephs (14-6, 3-1 NESCAC) won game one 11-7 before taking game two, 3-1, over the Polar Bears (9-13, 0-8 NESCAC).
Game One Highlights
- Williams jumped out to an 8-0 lead, including a five-run fourth inning, but the Polar Bears wouldn't quit.
- Bowdoin scored three in the fourth inning, thanks in part to a two-run homer from Reilly Parga, and then cut the lead to 8-7 with a four-run fifth frame, as Kyla Gary and Sydney Lang had two-RBI hits in the rally.
- The Polar Bears could get no closer, however, and Williams tagged on three runs in the seventh to help seal the win.
- Anika Ewert had two hits and two runs and a stolen base for the Polar Bears.
Game Two Highlights
- Game two was a pitcher's duel as a Parga sacrifice fly game Bowdoin an early 1-0 edge in the first inning.
- Williams scored twice in the fourth and added another in the seventh to build a 3-1 lead.
- Bowdoin loaded the bases in the ninth with one out, but a strikeout and a groundout clinched the victory for Williams.
- Sydney Lang led Bowdoin with a pair of hits while Kathleen Hester went 7.0 innings, scattering nine hits while striking out five in the circle.
