Softball Closes Out Non-Conference Slate With Doubleheader Sweep of UNE

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin College softball team swept a doubleheader from the University of New England on Tuesday evening at Pickard Field, 9-0 and 7-3. The Polar Bears improve to 17-17 this season while the Nor'easters fall to 10-26.
 
Game One Highlights
  • Bowdoin made quick work in game one, scoring nine runs in the first three innings in the five-inning 9-0 win.
  • Chloe Garcia got it started with a two-run triple with Elise Siciliano doubling home Garcia in the first inning.
  • Garcia finished 2-3 with four RBI in the game while Anika Ewert went 3-3 with three runs scored.
  • Maddie Current got the complete-game win, going 5.0 innings, allowing five hits and striking out four.  
Game Two Highlights
  • UNE grabbed an early 1-0 in the top of the first and extended it to 3-1 entering the bottom of the third frame in game two.
  • Bowdoin chipped away with a run in the bottom of the third and used a three-run outburst in the fourth to take the lead for good.
  • Anika Ewert delivered a run-scoring single to start the rally and Kyla Gary delivered a two-run single to increase the lead.
  • Ava Biasotti got the win in relief, tossing 2.2 frames of scoreless ball with two strikeouts.
  • Ewert had three more hits in game two while Gary went 2-4 with two RBI. Penelope Fong-Picariello and Liv Barrett had two hits each.

  • Bowdoin will return to action Friday with a doubleheader against Hamilton at Trinity College beginning at noon.
