Softball Splits Friday Series With Bates

LEWISTON, Maine – The Bowdoin softball team split a pair of low-scoring games in its series at Bates on Friday afternoon.
 
The Polar Bears (15-17, 4-10 NESCAC) dropped a tight 3-2 game one. Bowdoin defeated the Bobcats (16-14, 7-7 NESCAC) 3-0 in game two.
 
Game One Highlights
  • Bowdoin went up 2-0 in the third inning as Chloe Garcia hit a bases-loaded single to right that plated two runners.
  • Bates responded with two runs to tie the game in the bottom half of the inning.
  • The go-ahead run came in the fifth inning. With the bases loaded, a single up the middle allowed one run to score.
  • Bowdoin could not find the offense to rally and tie the game in the final two innings.
  • Ellie Sullivan went four innings and allowed six hits and no earned runs.
  • Ava Biasotti pitched one inning with two hits allowed and one run.
  • Kathleen Hester pitched the final inning and gave up no hits with one strikeout.
  • Reilly Parga was the lone Polar Bear with multiple hits, one of which was a double.
 
Game Two Highlights
  • Garcia got the Polar Bears on the board in the first inning with an RBI double to left center.
  • Maddie Paschke added a sacrifice lineout in the fifth.
  • Garcia's output continued with another RBI double down the left field line in the fifth inning to make it 3-0.
  • Maddie Current pitched five shutout innings with five hits and three strikeouts.
  • Hester pitched the final two innings, allowing one hit with three more K's.
  • Kyla Gary joined Garcia with a two-hit game.
