Ray-Steiner's Overtime Game-Winner Lifts Men's Lacrosse to NESCAC Semifinals

BRUNSWICK, Maine – Sam Raye-Steiner scored the overtime game-winning goal, capping a furious second half comeback to lift the second-seeded Bowdoin men's lacrosse team to a 13-12 win over seventh-seeded Hamilton in the NESCAC Quarterfinals Saturday at Whittier Field.

The Polar Bears (13-2) advance to the conference semifinals next weekend while Hamilton sees its season come to an end at 7-8. Complete semifinal pairings and game times will be announced following the completion of quarterfinal play on Sunday.

  • The Contintentals jumped ahead early, putting the Polar Bears in a 4-1 hole less than 11 minutes into the contest.

  • The visitors replied with a strong second quarter, outscoring Bowdoin 6-2, and building a 10-6 lead at intermission.
  • Bowdoin's defense was the story in the second half as the Polar Bears rallied, allowing just two goals over the final 33:22 of the game.
  • The Polar Bears clawed back with a 4-1 third quarter margin, as a pair of Chris Berry goals cut the lead to 11-10 heading into the fourth.
  • Hamilton pushed their lead back to 12-10 just 24 seconds into the final frame but would not score again. Patrick Fitzgerald scored at 9:34 and Jason Lach added another at 4:20 to force overtime.
