Softball Sweep Colby In Midweek NESCAC Matchup

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin softball team picked up a key series sweep of visiting Colby on Tuesday night.
 
The Polar Bears climb to 14-16 with a 3-9 NESCAC record. The Mules sit at 11-15 (5-5 NESCAC). Bowdoin held on for a 5-4 win in game one and cruised to a 9-1 five-inning win in game two.
 
Game One Highlights
  • Ellie Sullivan drew a bases-loaded walk in the second inning to give Bowdoin a 1-0 lead. Maddie Paschke added a sacrifice fly to make it 2-0.
  • Chloe Garcia launched a homerun 220 feet to straight away center to make it 4-0 in the third.
  • Kyla Gary drove in Bowdoin's final run, singling through the right side, in the fourth inning.
  • Sullivan pitched five shutout innings and allowed two hits. Maddie Current came in at the top of the sixth and left the game with the bases loaded. Kathleen Hester closed out the final two innings and kept Bowdoin ahead by one.
  • Gary and Garcia both had multi-hit games.
  • Garcia, JK Bradley, and Paschke all hit doubles.
 
Game Two Highlights
  • Colby took its first lead of the night off an RBI single down the right field line in the first inning.
  • Garcia answered for Bowdoin in the bottom half of the inning. Elise Siciliano put Bowdoin on top with an RBI groundout.
  • Anika Ewert scored in the third off a throwing error by the third baseman, making a play at first.
  • Rosie Panenka scored on a wild pitch in the fourth inning and Gary hit an RBI single.
  • Bowdoin found runs six through nine in the fifth inning to end the game.
  • Siciliano hit a single that allowed Ella Davies to score. Ewert hit an RBI single straight up the middle. Gary had a two-run walkoff single up the middle to give Bowdoin the 9-1 win.
  • Maddie Current worked five innings and allowed four hits with four strikeouts.
  • Ewert had a pair of stolen bases and went 3-for-4.
  • Gary also went 3-for-4 with three RBI.
  • Garcia, Siciliano, and Sydney Lang all went 2-for-3 at the plate.
