Early Burst Propels Women's Lacrosse To Victory at Bates

LEWISTON, Maine – The Bowdoin College women's lacrosse team held off a late surge by Bates to claim its first NESCAC win of the season, 15-12, on Wednesday evening. The Polar Bears move to 5-5 (1-5 NESCAC) while the Bobcats fall to 6-5 (2-4 NESCAC).
 
Game Highlights
  • Bowdoin completely dominated the opening quarter, sprinting out of the gate with the first seven goals of the contest in the first ten minutes of play.
  • Lauren Burke scored the first two goals of the game and Molly Reed added three in the run to that gave Bowdoin an 8-1 lead after one period of play.
  • Bates rallied in the second quarter, but Bowdoin was able to still maintain a 12-6 lead at halftime.
  • Bates continued to chip away at the Polar Bear lead in the third quarter, closing to within 14-9 entering the final stanza, and 14-10 with 11:16 remaining.
  • Bowdoin's Miya Imaeda scored with 9:35 to go however, pushing the lead back to five goals, and the Polar Bears withstood a pair of late Bobcat goals to hold on to the victory.
By The Numbers
  • Molly Reed scored five goals and an assist to lead the Bowdoin scorers, and also grabbed a game-high 14 draw controls in the victory.
  • Miya Imaeda notched four goals while Grace Harvey added three.
  • Defensively Anna Paulmann had five ground balls and a caused turnover.
  • Bowdoin's Hannah Rubin (three saves) and Sophie Brett (two saves) split time in goal for the Polar Bears, who held a 29-21 edge in shots for the contest.
  • The win was the seventh straight for the Polar Bears over the Bobcats dating back to 2017. The Polar Bears have not lost in Lewiston since 2008.
