Softball Stumbles At Southern Maine

GORHAM, Maine – The Bowdoin softball team suffered a doubleheader sweep at USM on Friday evening.
 
The Polar Bears fall to 12-16 on the season as the Huskies sit at 13-13. Bowdoin fell 11-10 in eight innings in game one. The Huskies took a 5-4 win in game two.
 
Game One Highlights
  • Bowdoin led 1-0 after the first off Elise Siciliano's triple through the left side that plated Anika Ewert.
  • Kyla Gary and Chloe Garcia each drove in two runs in the third. Gary doubled and Garcia homered.
  • USM chipped away and trailed by one after a four-run third. The Huskies took the lead with another four runs in the fourth.
  • Bowdoin regained the lead after Rosie Panenka hit an RBI single in the fifth and the team put up four more runs in the sixth.
  • Reilly Parga drove in two, JK Bradley drove in another one, and Sydney Lang scored on an error.
  • The Huskies tied the game to force overtime with a pair of runs in the seventh.
  • The hosts hit a walkoff fielder's choice in the eighth.
  • Ewert, Gary, Garcia, Parga, and Rosie Panenka all had a multi-hit game.
  • Ava Biasotti went 2.2 innings with five hits and four runs allowed. Maddie Current went 4.2 innings with five hits and no earned runs.
 
Game Two Highlights
  • Bowdoin took the first-inning lead again off an unearned run and a sacrifice fly off the bat of Garcia.
  • A run in the first and third innings tied the game for USM.
  • The Huskies scored three runs in the fifth to open up a 5-3 lead.
  • Bowdoin mounted a two-run rally in the seventh but could not close the gap. Siciliano and Garcia each recorded an RBI.
  • Ewert went 3-for-4 at the plate.
  • Ellie Sullivan pitched three innings and allowed four hits with a pair of runs.
  • Kathleen Hester surrendered five hits and three earned runs with a matching number of walks and strikeouts.
