Women's Basketball Runs Away From Brooklyn in NCAA Tourney Opener

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin College women's basketball team earned a 66-42 victory over Brooklyn in the opening round of the NCAA Division III Tournament on Friday evening in Morrell Gymnasium. The Polar Bears (28-0) move on to the second round on Saturday evening where they will face SUNY Cortland at 7:30 p.m. in Morrell Gymnasium. Tickets are available here.
 
Game Highlights
  • After scuffling in the early going, Bowdoin hit their stride midway through the frame, going on a 21-0 run to end the period to take a command lead.
  • Sydney Jones sparked the run with five straight points and Callie Godfrey added seven in the run as Bowdoin took a 27-7 edge after ten minutes of play.
  • Bowdoin extended its lead courtesy of Abbie Quinn in the second quarter, who scored eight points to push the Polar Bear lead to 44-16 at the break.
  • Brooklyn's frenetic defense kept the pressure up in the second half as the Bulldogs outscored Bowdoin in the second half of the contest to close the final game to 24 points.
