Softball Opens NESCAC Play With Setback At Wesleyan

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The Bowdoin softball team suffered a pair of low scoring setbacks to Wesleyan to begin NESCAC play on Saturday.
 
The Polar Bears are 9-7 with an 0-2 NESCAC record to begin the conference schedule. Wesleyan is 12-2 (2-0 NESCAC).
 
Game One Highlights
  • Wesleyan went ahead 2-0 in the bottom of the second and held the Polar Bears off the board until the fifth inning.
  • Sydney Lang put the ball in with the bases loaded and allowed two runs to score off a Wesleyan error.
  • Chloe Garcia grounded out to first, but plated Elise Siciliano to make it 3-2 in favor of Bowdoin.
  • The Cardinals regained the lead in the sixth with a game-tying single and game-winning wild pitch run.
  • Anika Ewert paced Bowdoin by going 2-for-4 at the plate.
  • Maddie Current allowed ten hits and two earned runs. Current threw four strikeouts with three walks.
 
Game Two Highlights
  • The Cardinals took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first off an RBI lineout to left.
  • Maddie Paschke made it into scoring position in the third, but the Polar Bears could not bring the runner home.
  • Wesleyan doubled its run tally after a leadoff walk in the bottom of the fifth and a two-out RBI double to drive in the run.
  • Ewert made it to second in the sixth inning after a bunt single and stolen base. The Cardinals recorded two more to end the inning before Bowdoin could find a way to bring her home.
  • Ewert went 2-for-3.
  • Kathleen Hester allowed just four hits in six innings of work. Hester scattered seven walks and three strikeouts throughout the game,
