Softball Earns Pair of Wins Friday In Florida

KISSIMEE, Fla. -The Bowdoin softball team claimed a pair of tight games during its spring trip in Florida. The Polar Bears opened the day with a 3-1 triumph over Otterbein, before edging Ursinus 14-13 in the nightcap.
 
Game One Highlights
  • Bowdoin got on the board in the bottom of the first when a sacrifice fly by Sydney Lang brought Anika Ewert home.
  • The Bears knotted the contest at 1-1 in the fourth as Kayla Carr tallied an unearned run on a Polar Bear miscue.
  • Bowdoin answered in its half of the inning as Ellie Sullivan singled up the middle to plate Ella Davies for the 2-1 edge.
  • Ewert secured the 3-1 win for the Polar Bears, touching home when Kaitlyn Fado singled and advanced on the throw.
  • Maddie Current struck out seven batters to earn a complete-game victory, while Ewert swiped three bases.
 
Game Two Highlights
  • Elise Siciliano reached on an error the start the second game, sending Ewert scampering home for the early 1-0 edge.
  • Otterbein responded, tallying five runs over two innings for a 5-1 lead.
  • In the top of the third, Lang doubled to drive in Penelope Fong-Picariello, before later touching home when Reilly Parga reached on a fielder's choice to make it 5-3.
  • The Cardinals exploded for six runs on three hits in the third, increasing their lead to 11-3. 
  • Lang belted a two-run homer in the top of the fourth to cut the deficit to 11-5.
  • The Polar Bears carried the momentum into the fifth, tallying six runs to knot the contest at 11-11.
  • A groundout and a single plated two runners in the fifth to give Otterbein a a 13-11 edge, but scored twice in the sixth to deadlock the game at 13-13.
  • Bowdoin secured the contest in its last at-bat as a single from Sicilano brought Ewert home for the 14-13 win.
