Baseball Posts Twinbill Sweep of Penn State Altoona

DAVENPORT, Fla. - The Bowdoing baseball team edged Pennslyvania State Altoona 4-3 in the opening contest, before triumphing 9-1 in the nightcap. With the pair of wins, the Polar Bears improve to 8-0.
 
Game One Highlights
  • A double by Will Bordes in the top of the third drove in Conor Moriarty for the 1-0 edge.
  • The Bordes-Moriarty duo struck again in the fifth as Moriarty came home when Bordes singled to left field for the 2-0 lead. 
  • Bowdoin increased its advantage to 4-0 in the top of the sixth with runs by Cal Thompson and Chris Dirks.
  • The Lions nearly stole the game back in the bottom of the seventh. A single through the right side by Brian Chelli plated an unearned run from Tyreke Green, before Chelli scored himself later in the inning. The Polar Bears ended the run with a double play to secure the 4-3 win.
  • Alastair Rose secured the triumph on the mound, striking out eight batters over 6.1 innings of work.
 
Game Two Highlights
  • Altoona jumped out to a 1-0 edge in the top of the fourth when Joe O'Connor scored on a wild pitch.
  • Thompson, Moriarty and Bordes each scored in the bottom of the fifth to give Bowdoin a 3-1 edge.
  • The Polar Bears exploded for six runs on four hits in the sixth to ease to the 9-1 victory. 
  • Sam Sacerdote earned the win, striking out four batters over four innings. 
  • Bordes had two runs on a pair of hits to go along with four RBI.
