Softball Splits Wednesday Schedule With Nichols and Suffolk

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – The Bowdoin softball team earned split results during their second day of competition in Florida with a loss to Nichols and win over Suffolk.
 
The Polar Bears are 3-3 on the year after falling 4-0 to Nichols (3-2), but earned a bounce back 6-4 win over Suffolk (4-6).
 
Game One Highlights
  • Nichols took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third and added three more runs in the final inning to earn the win.
  • Bowdoin was unable to get any offense going until the sixth and seventh innings. Rosie Panenka had the Polar Bears first hit of the game with a single to right and Anika Ewert followed up with a single to shortstop.
  • Sydney Lang and JK Bradley both singled in the bottom of the seventh but Bowdoin was unable to plate either runner.
  • Kathleen Hester sprinkled seven hits over seven innings with three earned runs and a pair of strikeouts.
 
Game Two Highlights
  • Bowdoin's bats found the ball against Suffolk with a combined ten hits for the Polar Bears.
  • After falling behind 3-0 in the first inning, Bowdoin plated two runs in the fourth. Lang tagged an RBI right field triple and Chloe Garcia had a sacrifice fly to drove home Lang.
  • The Polar Bears took the lead in the fifth. Elise Siciliano tied the game as she popped up to second and Ewert scored. Liv Barrett added a two-run double to left.
  • Maddie Paschke drove in Bowdoin's sixth and final run with a long fly ball to center that allowed Kaitlyn Fado to score.
  • Suffolk responded with one last run in the sixth.
  • Siciliano, Lang, Fado, and Liv Barrett all had multi-hit games.
  • Ellie Sullivan pitched three innings and allowed three runs with a pair of strikeouts. Maddie Current pitched four innings with one run and five strikeouts.
