Softball Opens Season With UMF Sweep

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin softball team opened the 2025 season with a pair of twelve-run games against the University of Maine-Farmington on Friday evening.
 
The Polar Bears begin the season 2-0 after winning the first game 12-4 in six innings and the second game 12-1 in five. The Beavers start off with an 0-2 record.
 
Game One Highlights
  • Farmington took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second off an RBI single from Emily Collins. The Beavers doubled their run tally in the fourth to take a 4-0 advantage.
  • Bowdoin tied the game in the bottom of the fourth. Ellie Sullivan recorded an RBI triple to center and Elise Siciliano tagged a two-run tiple to left. Reilly Parga singled to center for her first career RBI as a Polar Bear.
  • Parga quickly added three more RBI in the fifth, tagging a bases-clearing triple to right center. Penelope Fong-Picariello had an RBI groundout and Siciliano doubled to left center for another two runs.
  • Bowdoin closed out the game with three runs in the sixth. JK Bradley doubled to center to plate two and Fong-Picariello hit a walk-off RBI single to center.
  • Anna Halliday pitched three innings and allowed three hits and a pair of runs. Maddie Current also pitched three innings with four hits and two runs.
  • Anika Ewert went 3-for-4 with a pair of stolen bases and two runs scored.
  • Siciliano went 2-for-4 with four RBI off a double and triple.
  • JK Bradley hit 3-for-4 and scored three runs with a pair of RBI.
  • Parga was 3-for-3 with four RBI in her collegiate debut.
 
Game Two Highlights
  • Siciliano put Bowdoin on the board in the first, sending a sacrifice fly to center that plated Ewert. A Beavers error at the end of Rosie Panenka's at-bat allowed Sydney Lang to score to make it 2-0. Sullivan and Maddie Paschke both hit RBI singles.
  • Siciliano plated another run in the second to make it 5-0.
  • Farmington pushed a runner across the plate in the third to spoil Kathleen Hester's shutout bid.
  • Kaitlyn Fado had her first run-producing hit with a two-run single in the third. Siciliano singled to shortstop to make it 8-1.
  • Bowdoin iced the game in the fourth with four more runs and a shutout fifth.
  • Hester recorded nine strikeouts with two walks and four hits allowed.
  • Ewert and Fado both tagged triples and went 3-for-4 at the plate.
  • Lang and Paschke went 2-for-3.

  • The Polar Bears are off until they resume play in Florida on March 11.
