Women's Hoops Suffers First Setback of Season in Loss to Calvin

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin College women's basketball team suffered its first regular season loss since February of 2024, dropping a 61-51 decision to Calvin University on day two of the Coastal Classic Tuesday afternoon. The Polar Bears fall to 8-1 on the year while the Knights improve to 7-4.

Game Highlights
  • The Polar Bears jumped out quickly, taking a 7-0 lead just two minutes into the game, but Calvin gained their footing and we able to cut the lead to a single point, 13-12 at the end of the first quarter.
  • The Knights opened the second quarter on a 7-2 surge, extending their lead to six points before Bowdoin clawed back, tying the game on a Carly Davey runner before halftime to send the game into intermission knotted at 27 apiece.
  • Calvin came out red hot in the third quarter, rolling off a 13-2 run to take as many as an 11 point lead, 42-31, midway through the frame.
  • Bowdoin rallied, cutting the lead to a single point on three occasions over the remainder of the contest, the final time coming on an Abbie Quinn bucket that trimmed the lead to 52-51, with 4:33 to go.
  • The Polar Bears would not score again, however, and Calvin connected on seven free throws in the final minute to push the final margin to ten points.
By The Numbers
  • The regular season loss is the first for Bowdoin since a loss at Bates on February 2, 2024 and is the first home regular season setback since November 18, 2023 to Whittier (also at the Coastal Classic). Bowdoin had won its last 35 regular season games.
  • Cold shooting doomed the Polar Bears, who connected on just 28% from the field and just 8% (2-24) from long distance in the loss.
  • Calvin shot slightly better, going 36% from the field, and going 15-19 from the free throw line.
  • Abbie Quinn scored 18 points and grabbed 14 rebounds for Bowdoin while Grace Kinum added 17 points, seven boards, five assists, and three steals.
Up Next
  • Bowdoin will look to bounce back on Friday evening when they host Wheaton at 5:30 p.m.
