Women's Basketball Wins Coastal Classic Opener Against Vassar

BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College women's basketball team cruised to 64-44 win over Vassar on day one of the Coastal Classic on Monday afternoon in Morrell Gymnasium. The Polar Bears improve to 8-0 while the Brewers fall to 3-4. 

Game Highlights
  • The Polar Bears used a late surge in the opening period, highlighted by three-pointers from Grace Kinum, Payton Collins, and Carly Davey to take a 19-11 lead at the end of one frame. 
  • Vassar was able to cut the lead to three points early in the second quarter, but Bowdoin answered with a 7-0 run, to push the lead to double figures, 34-24 at halftime. 
  • The Polar Bears maintained a double-digit lead throughout the second half, with Grace Kinum scoring 11 points in the third and fourth quarters to help Bowdoin close it out.
  • The Polar Bears held Vassar to 5-24 shooting (20%) in the second half, leading by as many as 22 points en route to the win.
By The Numbers
  • Bowdoin finished at 43% shooting in the game, including nine three-pointers, and held Vassar to 27% from the field. 
  • Grace Kinum led all players with 18 points, eight rebounds, and three steals for the Polar Bears.
  • Payton Collins had nine points - all on three-pointers - while Carly Davey had eight points and Maria Belardi added eight points and seven boards. 
  • Bowdoin owned a 42-28 advantage on the glass and scored 20 point off turnovers in the victory.
