Second Period Scoring Pushes Men's Hockey Past Gustavus Adolphus

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin men's ice hockey team mounted a furious second period rally to storm past vising Gustavus Adolphus in the opening game of the Bowdoin Colby Classic.

The Polar Bears are 4-1-0 and drop the Gusties to 2-5-0.

Game Highlights
  • The Gusties scored a pair of power play goals the final three minutes of the first period to head into intermission up 2-0. Drew Holt fired a shot from near range on the right side and forced Jacob Osborne to make a kick save that deflected left. Hunter Newhouse intercepted the rebound and immediately put the puck on net. A diving Osborne could not get across the crease in time.
  • Emil Samuelson banked a one-timer off the right post that looked like a no-goal, but the puck skidded over the goal line.
  • Bowdoin shifted into gear right of the gate in the second period. Will Rice won a faceoff on the right dot and kicked the puck back to Ricky Volpe for a goal just 3:05 into the frame.
  • Less than 15 seconds later, Bowdoin tied the game. Jake Minella fed Hunter Fetterolf who skated from neutral ice down the center and drifted left. Fetterolf rocketed a shot past Marko Belak.
  • The Polar Bears took the lead with another goal four minutes later. Aidan Lyons skated the puck down the middle and put a wrister off the glove of Belak.
  • A delayed penalty in the final four minutes gave Bowdoin an extra skater and another goal. Volpe curled along the top of the right circle, skated toward the slot, and put a shot near post.
  • Bowdoin survived a six-on-four during the final two minutes of the game to hold the 4-2 victory.
