Men's Basketball Drops Tight Home Opener to Brandeis

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin College men's basketball team dropped their home opener to Brandeis in a hard-fought battle in Morrell Gymnasium Saturday evening, 70-66. The Polar Bears fall to 1-1 while the Judges stand at 1-2 on the year.
 
Game Highlights
  • The Polar Bears carried a six-point lead into halftime, 34-28, thanks to 43% shooting from the field and 11 first-half points from Ray Cuevas.
  • A Jackson Bleecker three-pointer and four straight points from Cuevas pushed the Bowdoin lead to double digits, 44-34, early in the second half.
  • Brandeis recovered, rolling off a 10-0 run to tie the contest on a three-pointer from Ryan Weiss with 14:30 to go.
  • The game was back-and-forth from there with neither team opening up more than a four-point lead for the rest of the contest.
  • Tied at 63 with 3:30 remaining, Brandeis was able to survive with timely buckets down the stretch as Bowdoin missed their final three shots from the field and committed a pair of costly turnovers in the final 2:30.

  • Bowdoin finished at 40% shooting for the game and held Brandeis to 38%, but the Judges went 14-20 from the free throw line and scored 12 points off 12 Polar Bear turnovers.
  • Ray Cuevas scored a team-high 22 points while Alex Halpern had eight.
  • Nolan Bessire had a team-best eight rebounds and five blocks.
  • Mason Dawkins had seven points, four rebounds, and four steals.
  • Elias Rodl led Brandeis with 25 points and ten rebounds.
