Women's Hoops Uses Stellar Defense To Beat Saint Joseph

WENHAM, Mass. – The Bowdoin College women's basketball team dominated Saint Joseph (Conn.) in a 66-25 victory on Saturday on day two of the Gordon Tip-Off Classic. The Polar Bears improve to 2-0 while the Blue Jays fall to 0-2.
 
Game Highlights
  • Bowdoin never trailed, sprinting to a 10-2 lead out of the gate that included three-pointers from Maria Belardi and Jamie Yue.
  • The Polar Bears extended their lead to double digits by the end of the quarter, 21-8, as their defense took over the game.
  • Bowdoin did not allow Saint Joseph to score from the 2:34 mark of the first quarter until 5:08 were left in the third quarter – a span of 17:42.
  • The Polar Bears held the Jays scoreless in the second quarter (17-0) and, in all, scored 32 straight points to put the game away.

  • Bowdoin got 14 points each from Grace Kinum and Abbie Quinn. Quinn also pitched in ten rebounds and Kinum had three steals.
  • Maddie Wilkin led Bowdoin with five assists.
  • The Polar Bears shot 46% from the field and held Saint Joseph to 24%.
  • Bowdoin also held a 45-22 advantage in rebounding and scored 19 second chance points.
