Men's Hockey Caps Perfect Opening Weekend With Williams Win

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin College men's ice hockey team completed a successful opening weekend at Watson Arena with an authoritative 7-2 win over Williams on Saturday afternoon. The Polar Bears move to 2-0-0 (2-0-0 NESCAC) on the year while the Ephs fall to 0-2-0 (0-2-0).
 
Game Highlights
  • Bowdoin scored three goals in the first ten minutes of the game to set the tone against Williams. Colin Wojciechowski fired a shot from the right point and J.J. Lemieux tipped the puck to deflect in Bowdoin's first goal at 2:24.
  • Louie Marcellino had his first collegiate goal two minutes later. Marcellino skated the length of the left side and buried a low-angle wrister.
  • Will Rice capped the first period scoring with a goal at 7:36. Pierre Larocque teed up a shot from the right point and the rebound kicked out between the circles. Rice cleaned up the puck and put away the rebound.
  • Hunter Fetterolf added to the Bowdoin total with a goal midway through the second. Fetterolf received the puck on top of the left circle and handled across the middle before finding a window to put it past Kael DePape.
  • Ricky Volpe tallied his first goal in a Bowdoin jersey three minutes later on the power play. Volpe drifted left high in the Williams zone and tucked a shot inside the far post.
  • Bryce Bollman and Rice combined for a successful two-on-one as Bollman took the puck on the right, drew DePape, and dished left for a finish by Rice.
  • Williams spoiled the shutout with under two minutes remaining in the second with a power play goal. Connor Berg wristed a top-shelf shot from the left dot past Jacob Osborne.
  • Lemieux added his second score of the game midway through the third frame and David Vieten closed out the scoring for Williams with under five minutes to play.
By The Numbers
  • Jacob Osborne ended the night with 31 saves, including 13 in the opening period.
  • Will Rice and J.J. Lemieux each had two goals and an assist while James Cerepak added two assists.
  • Bowdoin went 2/3 on the power play and held Williams to 1/6.
