Women's Hoops Races Past Gordon in Season-Opening Win

WENHAM, Mass. – The Bowdoin College women's basketball team coasted to an 81-44 win in its season opener on Friday afternoon at Gordon College. The Polar Bears (1-0) have won their last ten season openers dating back to 2014. The Scots fall to 0-3 on the season with the loss.
 
Game Highlights
  • Hot early shooting and stifling first-half defense propelled the Polar Bears to a commanding halftime lead.
  • Trailing 5-4 in the early moments, Bowdoin rolled off a 17-3 run over a five-minute span, sparked by layups from Melissa Leone and Grace Kinum, and held a 21-10 lead after one quarter.
  • The Polar Bears held Gordon to four points (1-11 FG) in the second quarter, as three-pointers from Katherine Garr and Kate Saccaro vaulted Bowdoin to a 37-14 halftime edge.
  • A 30-point third quarter outburst by the Polar Bears put the game out of reach as Bowdoin led by as many as 40 points on their way to the win.

  • Bowdoin's defense sparked the offense as the Polar Bears totaled 39 points off turnovers in the win.
  • Every Polar Bear scored in the victory, paced by 12 from Maria Belardi and ten apiece from Grace Kinum and Abbie Quinn.
