Men's Basketball Storms Nor'easters in Season-Opening Win

BIDDEFORD, Maine – The Bowdoin College men's basketball team knocked down ten three-pointers en route to a convincing 82-59 season-opening win at the University of New England on Friday evening. The Polar Bears improve to 1-0 while the Nor'easters fall to 1-2.
 
Game Highlights
  • Up 10-8 in the early going, Alex Halpern buried a three-pointer to spark a 17-2 surge, extending the Polar Bear lead to 27-10 following a Mason Dawkins lay-in at 10:44 of the first half.
  • UNE was able to cut the lead back to nine points by the half, as Bowdoin took a 38-29 advantage into the break.
  • All thoughts of a Nor'easter comeback were put to rest as Jackson Bleecker hit three straight three-pointers, scoring the first nine points of the half, and pushing the Bowdoin lead to 18 points.
  • Bowdoin's lead remained in double digits for the rest of the game, and increased to as many as 27 points on their way to the win.

  • Sophomore Jackson Bleecker, playing in his first career game after missing his first year due to injury, made an immediate impact, scoring 24 points, including four three-pointers.
  • Kevin Reeves scored ten points with eight rebounds and two blocks while first-year Mason Dawkins also burst out of the gate with 16 points off the bench for Bowdoin.
  • Ray Cuevas totaled ten points while Nolan Bessire added a team-high 11 rebounds for the Polar Bears, who owned a 50-40 advantage on the glass.
  • Bowdoin connected on 46% for the game, including 51% in the second half, and held UNE to 32% shooting.
  • The Polar Bears totaled 38 points in the paint, scored 15 points off turnovers, and got 35 points from the bench in the victory.
