BRUNSWICK, Maine – In an evenly-played match between two of the nation's top squads, the Bowdoin and Tufts men's soccer teams played to a scoreless 0-0 draw Tuesday evening at Pickard Field. The Polar Bears (10-2-3, 5-2-3 NESCAC) earned the third seed for the NESCAC Tournament and will host a quarterfinal game against Middlebury on Saturday. Tufts (11-1-3, 6-1-3 NESCAC) captured the top seed for the championship.
Game Highlights
- After Tufts had a pair of good early chances, Bowdoin found its footing and controlled the pace of play throughout the majority of the contest.
- After outshooting the Jumbos 8-5 in the opening frame, the Polar Bears peppered the Tufts net with five shots and four corner kicks in the opening 20 minutes of the second half but couldn't break through.
- Alex Ainsworth smothered a good Tufts chance late in regulation as the teams settled for the scoreless draw.
- Bowdoin owned a 13-9 edge in shots for the game and held a 5-4 lead in corner kicks.
- Ainsworth finished with a pair of saves in the contest.
NESCAC Tournament
- Bowdoin finished the NESCAC regular season with a mark of 5-2-3 and earned the third seed for the conference tournament.
- The Polar Bears will host sixth-seeded Middlebury at noon Saturday.
