Mammoths Ice Polar Bears In Overtime Field Hockey Contest

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin field hockey team fell 3-2 in overtime to visiting Amherst.
 
The Polar Bears are 9-5 (5-4 NESCAC). The Mammoths improve to 7-7 (3-6 NESCAC).
 
Game Highlights
  • The Mammoths scored just over two minutes into the game on a scrum goal right on the goal line. Chloe Agopian tallied the mark.
  • Emily Ferguson tied the game for Bowdoin midway through the second quarter. The ball bounced around in the circle on an offensive corner, finding its way to Mackay Bommer on the back right post. Bommer worked to free the ball up to Ferguson who finished off the play.
  • Amherst regained the lead in the 50th minute of the game. Anna Aiello fired a shot from the top of the circle and Justine Liguori tipped the ball from stroke to score.
  • The Polar Bears answered less than a minute later. Charlotte Crawford worked the ball from the right side of the circle to the center for a Bommer tally.
  • Liguouri scored the game-winner seven minutes into overtime.
 
By the Numbers
  • Amherst held a narrow 12-10 overall shots advantage and 9-7 shots on goal edge.
  • Lauren O'Donald stopped six shots for the Polar Bears.
  • Kate Grady made five saves.
  • Both teams earned six corners, including one each in overtime.
