Volleyball Win Streak Ends in Five-Setter at Williams

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – The Williams volleyball team rallied from a 2-1 deficit to defeat Bowdoin 3-2 on Saturday afternoon. The Ephs improve to 14-2 (5-2 NESCAC) while the Polar Bears fall to 10-7 (3-3 NESCAC).
 
Match Highlights
  • Bowdoin rallied from a first set loss but eventually succumbed to Williams by scores of 25-18, 15-25, 22-25, 25-21, 15-11.
  • After the teams traded wins to open the match, Bowdoin used a key 7-3 run midway through the third, including three Zoe Ryu kills, to take command in a 25-22 win and a 2-1 overall lead.
  • Williams never trailed in the fourth set, jumping to an early 7-3 advantage and holding off a late Polar Bear surge to force a decisive fifth set.
  • In the fifth,  Williams again came out fast, grabbing an 8-4 edge and took advantage of three Bowdoin service errors to come away with the win.
By The Numbers
  • Zoe Ryu had a career-high 28 kills for Bowdoin, one shy of the school record for a single match, and the most for a Polar Bear since Julie Calareso's 29 against Bates in 2004. She also had 13 digs.
  • Alison Smith posted ten kills for Bowdoin, who got three aces from Kelsey Kim.
  • Anna Yeh had 12 digs, and Cameron Shelly had 50 assists. Haley Campau led Bowdoin with nine blocks.
