Women's Hockey Mounts Third Period Rally To Remain Perfect

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin women's ice hockey team scored four goals in the third period to come from behind and remain perfect in a 4-2 win over UMass Boston on Saturday afternoon.

The Polar Bears are a perfect 10-0-0 after the comeback. The Beacons are 7-6-0.

Game Highlights
  • With under 12 seconds remaining in the first period, UMass Boston broke through. Gianna Skrelja sent the puck from the right point to Margeaux Butters. Butters took a shot from the left that deflected off a defender's stick to Rae Alexander on the inside edge of the near circle. Alexander beat Sarah Peterson before she could adjust.
  • On the penalty kill, Bowdoin nearly converted on a two-on-one breakaway. Gia Massari carried down the ice and dished to Luna Lu for a finish. Leah Bosch made a sliding save to keep the Polar Bears scoreless.
  • Bowdoin began the third period with energy and scored one minute into action. Emma Merrill collected the puck in the neutral zone and carried into Beacons territory. Merrill passed left to Massari who passed back to Merrill on the right point for a shot that Bosch caught a piece of but never controlled.
  • Cassidy Morrison answered two minutes later with a costly Bowdon turnover in the defensive end that allowed for a quick one-on-goal and wrister.
  • Bowdoin evened the game 57 seconds later. Kiley Briand deflected a Bella Mele shot from the left point.
  • The Polar Bears took their first lead of the game with 5:42 remaining in regulation. Meghan Britt skated into Beacons territory and backhanded a shot just wide of the left post. Britt collected her own rebound off the boards and found Lu in the right circle for a finish.
  • Jane McCarter added an empty-netter in the final minute, flipping a puck all the way from the blue line to the Beacons' net.
