Late Run Lifts Hamilton Over Men's Basketball

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Hamilton College men's basketball team closed the game on a 7-1 run to eke out a 75-70 win over Bowdoin on Friday evening inf Morrell Gymnasium. The Continentals improve to 15-4 (3-2 NESCAC) while the Polar Bears fall to 10-9 (0-5 NESCAC).
 
Game Highlights
  • The Continentals shot 57% from the field, and added 9-9 from the free throw line, to take a 42-35 edge into halftime.
  • Bowdoin battled back, and used a 10-2 surge midway through the second half to go from seven points down to take the lead, 57-56, on a running lay-in by Alex Halpern with 9:27 to go.
  • The teams traded the lead eight times in the final six minutes of the contest, with a jumper by Hamilton's Teja Singh with 2:25 remaining giving the Continentals a 70-69 edge.
  • After a scoreless possession by Bowdoin, a three-pointer by Matthew Rideout pushed Hamilton's lead to four points, 73-69, with under a minute to play.
  • Bowdoin got the margin down to three points with 35 seconds to go, and had a good look to tie that rimmed out as Hamilton hit a pair of late free throws to seal the win.
By The Numbers
  • Bowdoin was led by 18 points from Ray Cuevas, while James McGowan added 12.
  • Nolan Bessire had nine points and ten rebounds while Will Logue and Chris Simonds had eight points each.
  • Bowdoin finished at 38% shooting while Hamilton ended at 50%. The Polar Bears were able to keep it close thanks to nine three pointers and a 23-30 performance from the free throw stripe.
