Women's Basketball Leads All The Way in Victory Over Colby

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin College women's basketball team never trailed, moving to 17-0 on the season with a 61-56 win over Colby on Saturday in Morrell Gymnasium. The fourth-ranked Polar Bears are the only remaining unbeaten team in NESCAC play (4-0) while the Mules fall to 9-8 (3-1 NESCAC).
 
Game Highlights
  • Bowdoin led throughout the contest but Colby stayed within striking distance early thanks to their performance at the free throw line. The Polar Bears shot 66% from the field in the first quarter but the Mules shot 7-8 from the free throw line as Bowdoin owned an 18-16 lead after one frame.
  • The Polar Bears were able to extend their lead to as many as eight points in the second quarter before settling for a 32-27 lead at the break.
  • The teams traded runs in the third quarter before a lay-in by Grace Kinum sparked a quick 8-0 run that included three-pointers from Carly Davey and Sydney Jones to push Bowdoin's lead to 13.
  • Colby stayed close in the fourth quarter but could get no closer than five minutes over the final minutes as Bowdoin led by as many as ten with 2:14 to go.
By The Numbers
  • Abbie Quinn had a game-high 16 points while Sydney Jones ended with 15. Grace Kinum pitched in a big 13 points off the bench for the Polar Bears.
  • Quinn also had seven rebounds and four steals, going 7-10 from the field, while Jones had seven assists, six rebounds, two blocks, and a steal.
  • Kinum added five boards while Callie Godfrey had eight points. Carly Davey pitched in three steals in the victory.
  • Bowdoin shot 52% for the game while holding Colby to 37%. The Mules went 15-20 from the free throw line while the Polar Bears hit 7-17.
  • The Polar Bears scored 24 points off 18 Colby turnovers in the victory.
