Men's Hoops Rally Comes Up Short in Loss at Colby

WATERVILLE, Maine – The Bowdoin College men's basketball team came up short in a 70-57 setback at Colby on Saturday evening. The Polar Bears fall to 10-8 (0-4 NESCAC) while the Mules improve to 12-6 (3-1 NESCAC) with the win.
 
Game Highlights
  • Neither team shot the ball well in the opening half, but the Mules were able to take a slim 29-25 lead at the break thanks to 12 points from Marcos Montiel in the first period.
  • Bowdoin came out of the gate well in the second half, using a 7-2 run to briefly take the lead, 32-31, on a Will Logue lay-in with 15:46 to go.
  • Colby answered with a 14-3 surge over the next four minutes, however, pushing the lead to ten points, 45-35 with 11:28 on the clock.
  • A late push by Bowdoin closed the gap to as few as five points with 1:40 to go, but the Polar Bears could get no closer as Colby hit five free throws in the closing minute and a three-pointer at the buzzer to make it a 13-point final margin.

  • Ray Cuevas finished with 20 points and seven rebounds for Bowdoin while Nolan Bessire ended with 11 points and eight rebounds.
  • James McGowan had a team-high ten boards while Will Logue pitched in eight points.
  • Colby finished at 38% shooting for the game and held Bowdoin to 29% from the field.
  • The Mules owned a 23-9 advantage in bench points and scored 15 second chance points in the victory.
