Men's Hockey Plows Past Panthers With 5-1 Win and Shipper Hat-Trick

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin men's hockey team picked up a 5-1 win over Middlebury to avenge an early season loss to the Panthers.

The Polar Bears sit at 7-9-0 with a 5-5-0 NESCAC record. The Panthers are 7-8-0 and 3-6-0 in conference play.

Game Highlights
  • The Panthers struck first with a short-handed tally at 13:34 in the first. Dante Palombo jumped on a loose puck behind the net and drew Jacob Osborne out of the net. Palombo found Jackson Morehouse in front for an open look at the goal mouth.
  • Osborne made a stellar point-blank glove save five minutes into the second period off a close-range slapshot by Ryan Pineault.
  • Bowdoin broke through at 6:40 in the second to even the game. Richard Davis bumped the puck up along the left boards to Michael Dinges. Dinges backhanded a pass to Gabe Shipper skating onto the center ice medallion. Shipper carried into the Panthers' zone and put his shot through a defender and the goalie.
  • Four minutes later, the Polar Bears took their first lead of the game. Will Rice skated down the middle of the ice and dished right to Justin Wright along the right side. Wright centered a flat pass back across Rice to the stick of Jake Minella for a deflection and first collegiate goal on the back post.
  • Bowdoin came out and scored just over a minute into the third period. Kyle Jarosz collected the puck at the top of the left circle and quickly put a pass across to Aidan Lyons on the low side of the far circle. Lyons lined up a one-timer to put Bowdoin ahead 3-1.
  • Gabe Shipper added two empty-net goals in the final minutes to push the score to 5-1 and record a hat-trick.
