LEWISTON, Maine – The Bowdoin College women's basketball team recovered from an early deficit and led the entire second half of a 57-52 road win at Bates on Friday night.
The fourth-ranked Polar Bears (15-0, 3-0 NESCAC) pick up their sixth win in their last seven meetings against the Bobcats but their first win in Lewiston since December of 2022. The Bobcats have lost three straight and fall to 9-6 (0-3 NESCAC) with the setback.
Game Highlights
- The Bobcats came out firing, building as much as a nine-point lead, 13-4, late in the opening quarter before Bowdoin came to life.
- The Polar Bears closed the period on a 7-3 surge and continued it into the second quarter, taking the lead on a pair of Callie Godfrey free throws midway through the frame.
- After the pair of seemingly benign free throws by Godfrey gave Bowdoin a 17-16 lead at the 6:19 mark of the second quarter, the Polar Bears would never trail again in the game.
- The Polar Bears maintained the lead into halftime, 24-22, and played from in front for the entire second half.
- Bowdoin extended its lead to as many as eight points early in the fourth quarter and, despite Bates cutting the lead to a single point halfway through the final frame, Bowdoin kept its distance and the lead.
- The Polar Bears connected on 9-10 from the free throw line down the stretch and got a huge runner in the lane from Carly Davey with 23 seconds remaining to clinch the victory.

- Sydney Jones scored a game-high 20 points with nine rebounds and two steals while Carly Davey finished with 11 points.
- Callie Godfrey scored 10 points with three boards while Grace Kinum contributed seven points and seven rebounds.
- Bowdoin ended at 33% shooting but took advantage of 17 Bates turnovers to score 21 points. The Polar Bears also scored 11 second chance points and went 16-20 from the free throw line in the win.
