Women's Soccer Opens 2024 Season With Shutout Tie Against Hartford

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin women's soccer team started the year with a 0-0 battle against top-25 ranked University of Hartford.
 
The Polar Bears (0-0-1) and Hawks (0-0-1) traded possession in the midfield and each earned a few promising looks but were unable to secure a season-opening win.
 
Game Highlights
  • In the 20th minute, Charlotte Iannone made a diving save moving across the goal from her right to left posts.
  • Iannone was challenged again in the final minutes of the half, but sent the teams into the break tied 0-0.
  • Bowdoin found a bit more offensive pressure in the second half, recording a shot on goal just 1:40 into the frame.
  • Rylie McLaren had a promising look with a header in the box off a Kyra Hacker feed, but Sejal Johnson made the stop.
  • Mary Rainey forced a big diving save by Johnson in the waning minutes.
  • The Polar Bears broke up a last second breakaway by the Hawks as clock struck zero.
