Long and Price Lead Bowdoin to Homecoming Football Win Over Hamilton

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin College football team picked up its first win of the 2024 campaign, earning a 28-21 victory over Hamilton at Whittier Field Saturday afternoon. The Polar Bears move to 1-2 with the win while the Continentals fall to 0-3 on the season.

Game Highlights
  • After Hamilton opened the scoring with a five-play, 68-yard touchdown drive to take a 7-0 lead, Bowdoin answered with two touchdowns in a span of 15 seconds to take the lead.
  • Robbie Long found Austin Hiscoe with a 27-yard scoring strike to cap a six-play, 78-yard drive and deadlock the score at 8:04 of the opening quarter.
  • On the very first play of Hamilton's ensuing possession, pressure by Bowdoin's Angus Leary in the backfield forced an ill-advised throw by Continental quarterback Luke Kurzum, whose errant pass ended up in the hands of Koy Price in the endzone for an interception and Polar Bear touchdown.
  • Hamilton was able to recover thanks to backup quarterback Henry Rubey, who led the visitors on an 11-play, 76-yard drive midway through the second quarter to tie the score at 14-14 on a five-yard touchdown scamper.
  • The Polar Bears grabbed the lead before halftime, however, covering 56 yards in five plays, including a beautiful 37-yard scoring strike from Long to Slade Postemski with 1:54 on the clock.
  • Hamilton tied the game again, immediately after the break, as Rubey found Chester Boynton over the middle for an eight-yard touchdown pass at 10:13 of the third.
  • But Bowdoin replied again, as the Polar Bears covered 70 yards in ten plays, marching down to the Hamilton 14, where Long found Jed Hoggard in the flat, who stretched inside the pylon to give the hosts a 28-21 lead at 5:03 of the third.
  • Bowdoin's defense took over from there, allowing just 24 yards of offense from Hamilton over their last four drives of the game, including two punts, an interception, and a turnover on downs to clinch the win. The Continentals never got into Bowdoin territory again, as Gordon Gozdeck broke up the final passing attempt of the contest to seal it.
By The Numbers
  • Robbie Long passed for a career-high 273 yards on 17-29 throwing with three touchdowns. He also ran for a team-high 40 yards.
  • Koy Price was all over the field for Bowdoin defensively, with two sacks, 2.5 tackles for loss, and an interception for a touchdown. Dan Fiore led the Polar Bears with nine total tackles. Ferris Collins had seven tackles and an interception.
  • Bowdoin's receivers posted a balanced attack, led by Slade Postemski's four catches for 74 yards. Jed Hoggard finished with five receptions for 65 and Austin Hiscoe had four for 59 yards. All three had touchdowns.
  • Bowdoin finished with a season-high 381 yards of total offense, and held Hamilton to 291. Bowdoin owned slight 30:35-29:25 edge in time of possession and went 7-14 on third downs.
  • The Polar Bears also won the turnover battle, picking off two passes and not committing a turnover on the afternoon.
  • Bowdoin has won three straight against the Continentals, matching their longest win streak against Hamilton since claiming three in a row between 2013-15.
