Second Half Surge Sinks Football at Williams

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – The Williams College football team scored 27 unanswered points in the second half to blow open a close game in an eventual 34-14 win over Bowdoin Saturday. The Ephs move to 3-1 while the Polar Bears fall to 1-3.

Game Highlights
  • After a 68-yard touchdown run by Williams' Mario Fischetti just two plays into the game, the teams settled in for a defensive battle. Neither offense would score again for more than 37 minutes of game play.
  • Bowdoin evened the score in the second quarter when linebacker Koy Price continued his proclivity for scoring in 2024, scooping up a Williams fumble and returning it 15 yards for a touchdown at 11:54 to tie the score at 7-7. It was the second straight week with a touchdown for Price, who also scored on a safety in week 2 against Middlebury.
  • Neither team could get anything going until the third quarter, when a Williams turnover on downs gave Bowdoin the ball in Eph territory. The Polar Bears couldn't cash in, however, and Williams returned the favor with a turnover on downs and covered 70 yards in four plays to take the lead on a 22-yard pass.
  • That opened the flood gates for Williams, who scored four touchdowns in a 12 minute span ending the third and starting the fourth quarter to build a 34-7 lead.
  • Bowdoin added a late touchdown pass from Michael Wolfendale to Jed Hoggard to close out the scoring with 10:12 to go.
By The Numbers
  • Bowdoin could only muster 238 yards of total offense to Williams' 480 on the day.
  • Robbie Long had 103 yards passing and 39 yards rushing while Michael Wolfendale totaled 29 yards through the air and 45 on the ground for Bowdoin.
  • Jed Hoggard had five receptions for 94 yards and a score.
  • Dan Fiore had eight tackles, a sack, and a pass breakup while Price finished with two tackes, a forced fumble, a recovery, and a touchdown.
  • Nick Viscusi had an interception and Kanoa Young added a forced fumble. Bowdoin got sacks from Fiore, Angus Leary, Aidan Reidy, and Young.
Up Next
  • Bowdoin will return to action next weekend with another trip to Massachusetts as they play at Amherst Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
