Women's Rugby Sprints to Fast Start in Win Over New Haven

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Bowdoin College women's rugby team found its footing early and ran away from the University of New Haven, 69-21, on Saturday afternoon.

Match Highlights

Bowdoin scored the first four tries of the contest, building a 26-0 lead in the first 19 minutes of the match.
Four different Polar Bears scored in the run, as Rebecca Vakarau, Sachi Mehra, Maddy Kosmoski, and Malia Petelo notched tries.
Bowdoin held a 31-7 lead at the break and although New Haven closed the gap to 36-21 midway through the second half, the Polar Bears pulled away late.
Bowdoin closed the match on a 33-0 run as Petelo's third try of the day sparked the surge.
Kyra Bishop provided strong tackle pressure on the day for Bowdoin.
Petelo's first career tries resulted in a hat trick while Saniya Ridley also scored three on the day.
Ginger Arnold and Sachi Mehra also notched their first career tries. Lulu Linkas had a game-high five conversions.

Bowdoin will hit the road again next weekend, as they travel to play at Princeton on Saturday at noon.
