Field Hockey Notches NESCAC Win at Connecticut College

NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Bowdoin field hockey team secured its first conference win of the season in a 5-3 victory at Connecticut College on Saturday afternoon.
 
The Polar Bears high-powered offense continued to roll and improved to 2-2 (1-1 NESCAC). The Camels are 1-3 on the season with an 0-2 start to conference play.
 
Game Highlights
  • Connecticut College got on the board first at 5:14. Elizabeth Bonner moved around a defender at the top of the circle and drew the goalie to the stroke line. Bonner slotted a shot to the right side.
  • Mackay Bommer tied the game two minutes later as she battled the ball through the defense on the tail end of a corner.
  • The Camels again took the lead just minutes later. This time Rowan Galanis pulled the ball off the goalie's kicker and pulled left to put the ball away.
  • Bowdoin scored the fourth goal of the quarter with 2:32 remaining to make it 2-2. Maya Malenfant pushed a shot from the left side under the stepping foot of the goalie.
  • Bowdoin took its first lead of the game two minutes into the third quarter. Malenfant and Andrea DiTeodoro traded the ball at the top of the circle before Malenfant fired towards net with a Melissa Shunk tip to cause the ball to skip over the goalie.
  • The Camels answered with the game's third tie as Bridge McGann backhanded a flick into the net.
  • The Polar Bears took the lead once and for all as Maddie Mrva drove a ball in from the right side where Hannah Balmelli redirected from in front.
  • Ella Davies added an insurance goal 1:22 into the final quarter.
 
By the Numbers
  • Bowdoin held a slight 14-12 edge in shots with 11-8 shots on goal advantage.
  • Bowdoin earned 11 penalty corners to the Camels' four.
  • Lauren O'Donald made four saves. Shunk recorded a defensive save.
