Field Hockey Storms Past Southern Maine in Midweek Win

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin field hockey team collected its first win of the season in an 8-0 romp past the University of Southern Maine on Tuesday evening.
 
The Polar Bears are 1-2 on the season and drop to visiting Huskies to 1-3.
 
Game Highlights
  • Clara Noyes put Bowdoin on top quickly with a direct sweep from the top of the circle on a penalty corner just under five minutes into the game.
  • Maya Malenfant doubled the lead in the ninth minute of play.
  • Bowdoin tacked on two quick goals midway through the second quarter. Mackay Bommer deflected in a feed by Caroline Higgins and Higgins added a tally of her own from Emily Ferguson.
  • Ferguson made it 5-0 four minutes into the third quarter. Hannah Balmelli tallied her first collegiate goal just 1:50 in the fourth.
  • Malenfant deflected a drive from the 25 by Melissa Shunk to put the ball over USM's goalie.
  • Ella Davies capped the game with a cleanup job on the right post after inserting on a penalty corner to tally her first collegiate goal.
 
By the Numbers
  • Bowdoin held a 22-1 edge in shots on goal.
  • Lauren O'Donald recorded the win with 51 minutes in net. Eva Filipponi saw her first time in net and made one save to preserve the team shutout.
  • Eleanor Folsom played three quarters for USM and recorded 11 saves.
