Softball Senior Day Spoiled By Tufts Sweep

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin softball team suffered a series sweep to NESCAC leading Tufts on Saturday.
 
The Polar Bears (23-15, 7-9 NESCAC) dropped game one by a 6-2 margin and were shutout 5-0 in the second. Tufts is 31-6 (15-3 NESCAC) and secured the top seed for the conference tournament.
 
Game One Highlights
  • Bowdoin took its only lead of the day as Elise Siciliano hit her first career homerun over the left field fence in the bottom of the second to make it 1-0.
  • Tufts responded with a three-run third inning as the Jumbos strung together singles.
  • A two-run double by Kaitlyn Perucci in the fifth made it 5-1 as she collected her second and third RBIs of the game.
  • Chloe Garcia plated Anika Ewert in the sixth to make it 5-2, singling to left center after Ewert reached base with a leadoff single and steal.
  • Tufts added one more run in the seventh.
  • Ewert, Garcia, Siciliano, and Shea Sullivan were the three Polar Bears with hits.
  • Maddie Current suffered the loss with five innings of work and eight hits allowed.
 
Game Two Highlights
  • Despite Ewert going 3-for-3 in the game, Bowdoin fell 5-0 in game two.
  • Kyla Gary was the only other Polar Bear with a hit.
  • Anna Halliday suffered the loss with two runs allowed and a pair of strikeouts with six hits.
  • Kathleen Hester pitched the final four innings and allowed three hits and three runs.
