Brendan McClintick Named Head Coach of Men's and Women's Squash

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin College Athletic Department has announced the hiring of Brendan McClintick as head coach of men's and women's squash. McClintick has been the assistant coach of the Polar Bears since 2021 and assumes the role from Theo Woodward, who announced his intention to step down as head coach in April.

"I am thrilled to announce the promotion of Brendan McClintick to head coach of men's and women's squash," said Ashmead White Executive Director of Athletics Tim Ryan '98. "Brendan has been an integral part of our squash program as our assistant coach for the last three years and his unwavering support of our players and infectious positivity will be tremendous assets to our programs going forward.  Brendan's thoughtfulness and care for members of our program is matched by his desire to help players reach their full potential on court, and I am excited about the future of Bowdoin squash."

"I am extremely excited to continue my coaching journey at Bowdoin," said McClintick. "I would like to thank Tim Ryan and the entire search committee for their trust in my vision for this program. The College's commitment to the common good and holistic development of our student-athletes will be central as we aim to compete at the highest level. I couldn't be more enthusiastic about being the next head coach of this program."

A 2016 graduate of Connecticut College, McClintick was a two-time captain of the men's squash team and climbed from being a bottom of the lineup player as a first year to number one in the Camels lineup during his senior season. Following his graduation from Connecticut College Brendan spent five years as the Director of Squash at Capitol Squash in Hartford, Conn., a nonprofit organization focused on providing young people with experiences to assist them with reaching their full potential as athletes, students, and engaged citizens.

A longtime coach dating back to his time working squash camps as a college student, McClintick helped Woodward guide the Polar Bear women to three consecutive appearances in the Kurtz Cup Division of nationals and top-20 finishes, as well as a NESCAC runner-up finish for the men's team in 2021-22 and a Conroy Cup Division title at nationals in 2022-23.

Brendan is a certified Junior squash tournament director and has earned Level III coach certification with US Squash, the highest coaching certification level offered by the organization.
