MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – The Bowdoin baseball team lost a pair of Saturday non-conference games at Middlebury by a 17-3 and 10-2 margin. Bowdoin suffered the sweep with an 18-11 loss on Sunday.
The Polar Bears slide to 10-10 on the season as the Panthers climb to 13-7.
Game One Highlights
- The Panther jumped out to an 8-0 lead in the bottom of the second off three homeruns, one of which was a grand slam, and a bases-loaded wild pitch.
- The extra-base hits kept coming for the Panthers in the third with two two-run double and a two-run homer.
- Bowdoin finally broke through with a three-run homerun off the bat of Chris Dirks in the fourth.
- Middlebury added runs in the fourth and fifth.
- Reuben Siegel was the lone polar Bear with a multi-hit game, going 2-for-2.
- Bowdoin pitchers allowed 20 hits and 15 earned runs.
Game Two Highlights
- Middlebury again built an early lead that Bowdoin could not overcome. After a sacrifice fly to score the game's first run, the power hitting came back in the second and fourth innings.
- Bowdoin trailed 10-0 going into the seventh and final inning, before Aiden Carey tagged a two-run double to center.
- Carey went 2-for-4 at the plate with two RBIs.
- All ten Middlebury runs were earned runs.
Game Three Highlights
- Both teams poured on the runs in the third and final meeting of the weekend. The Panthers got on the board with a three-run homer in the first.
- Bowdoin pulled within one run in the top of the third as Chris Dirks doubled to right and drove in two runners.
- Middlebury exploded for seven runs in the third inning to take a 10-2 lead.
- The Polar Bears clawed back with a two-run homer off the bat of Ben McKenzie in the fourth.
- Middlebury again pushed a sizeable lead in the bottom half of the fifth, adding five more runs.
- With runners on second and third, Liam Foley recorded an RBI groundout in the sixth to add another run for Bowdoin.
- Luke Chessie joined McKenzie by adding another two-run homerun.
- Middlebury answered with three more runs in the eighth, but Bowdoin nearly rallied in the ninth as McKenzie clocked a grand slam.
- McKenzie went 3-for-4 with four runs and six RBIs. Chessie was 3-for-5 with two runs and two RBIs.
- Bowdoin pitchers allowed a combined 17 hits and 13 earned runs with zero strikeouts.
