Baseball Tallies Rain Soaked Victory Over Saint Joeseph's

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin baseball team returned to the win column with a nail-biting 6-5 win over Saint Joseph's.

The Polar Bears are 11-10 on the season and avenge an early season loss to the Monks (4-14).

Game Highlights
  • The game, was originally scheduled to be played at Saint Joseph's, and resulted in the Polar Bears batting first as the visiting time. Bowdoin left runners on base in the first and second innings, before CJ Brito-Trinidad finally drove in a run in the third. Brito-Trinidad doubled to left for an RBI.
  • The Monks converted on several opportunities in the third inning to make it 4-1.
  • Bowdoin found its rally caps in the sixth to flip the script and make it 5-4. Liam Foley, Reuban Siegel, and Aidan Carey all had RBI singles. Will Bordes had started the inning with a sacrifice fly to right for Bowdoin's first run of the inning.
  • Foley added the eventual game-winning RBI single in the seventh with a ball through the right side.
  • Timely hitting in the bottom of the ninth left Saint Joseph's trailing by just one run with one out remaining. With a runner on second, Michael Wearne singled to third and drew the throw at first. Wearne was safe at first, but the tying run was waved home and Kevin Murray found Chris Dirks for a tag at the plate.

By the Numbers
  • Murray went 2-for-3 at the plate with two walks. Foley was 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs. Foley also made a key defensive play late in the game, ranging into shallow left center to catch a pop-up to no man's land.
  • Murray, Brito-Trinidad, and Lukas Tsai all tagged doubles.
  • Seven Bowdoin pitchers combined to allow eight hits and three earned runs. Ryan Novitski led the pack with a pair of strikeouts.
