Softball Sweeps Cardinals in Crucial NESCAC Series

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin softball team secured a key NESCAC series sweep of Wesleyan on Sunday afternoon.
 
The Polar Bears came back to earn a 4-2 win in the opener and cruised to an early 7-1 lead in the second that never disappeared. Bowdoin climbs to 23-11 overall and 7-7 in NESCAC play.
 
Game One Highlights
  • The Cardinals put two runs on the board in the top of the first inning. Isabella Secaira-Cotta singled up the middle to drive in both base runners.
  • Sydney Lang answered in the bottom half of the inning, doubling to left center, and plating both Elise Siciliano and Anika Ewert.
  • Lang helped plate Bowdoin's go-ahead run in the third as she sliced a single to third that was then mishandled in a way that allowed Chloe Garcia to score.
  • JK Bradley recorded the game's final RBI in the third with a single down the left field line.
  • Kathleen Hester settled in and allowed five hits with three strikeouts in five innings of work.
  • Maddie Current earned the save with hitless shutout innings.
  • Siciliano and Lang were both 2-for-3.
 
Game Two Highlights
  • Wesleyan scored in the first inning to take an early 1-0 lead, but Bowdoin responded with a pair of runs in the bottom half.
  • Elise Siciliano tagged an RBI double to left and Sydney Lang collected an RBI single.
  • A big second inning pushed Bowdoin's lead to six. Anika Ewert drove in a run, while Penelope Fong-Picariello and Lang each drove in two.
  • Fong-Picariello, Siciliano, Shea Sullivan, and Kyla Gary all had doubles.
  • Siciliano went 4-for-4. Fong-Picariello went 3-for-4 and Ewert, Lang, and Gary all had two hits.
  • Anna Halliday earned the win with five innings of work and three hits allowed. Current picked up two strikeouts and allowed one hit in two innings of relief.
