Baseball Concludes Regular Season and Clinches #3 Seed For Post-Season

HARTFORD, Conn. – The Bowdoin baseball team split its Saturday doubleheader at Trinity after falling in the Friday series opener.
 
The Polar Bears leave Connecticut with a 17-14 overall record and a 6-6 NESCAC record. Bowdoin dropped Friday's game by a 9-2 margin. The Polar Bears opened Saturday with a 16-13 win before falling in the second game by a 14-3 margin.
 
Game One Highlights
  • Bowdoin scored both its runs in the first inning. Chris Dirks tripled to right center, plating Kevin Murray, and Lukas Tsai doubled down the right field line to drive in Dirks.
  • Trinity scored three runs in the bottom half of the inning and then added five more in the third and another in the fourth.
  • No Bowdoin players had multi-hit games.
  • CJ Brito-Trinidad also tagged an extra-base hit, joining Tsai and Dirks.
  • The Polar Bear pitching staff allowed 12 hits and eight earned runs.
 
Game Two Highlights
  • The two teams combined for 30 hits in Saturday's first game.
  • Bowdoin took the early lead with a four-run first inning and carried a 4-3 edge going into the second. The Polar Bears added eight more runs as the Bantams answered with four.
  • The Polar Bears led 14-7 after the top of the fourth, but Trinity made it 14-13 by the end of the inning.
  • Bowdoin found runs in both the sixth and seventh innings.
  • Ben McKenzie, Dirks, Murray, and Cal Thompson all had two hits. Tsai and Liam Foley each recorded three hits.
  • McKenzie was the RBI leader with three, followed by Murray, Luke Chessie, Reuben Siegel, and Thompson with two.
  • Dirks notched a double and a triple. Foley also hit a double.
  • McKenzie and Murray both tagged homers.
  • Brito-Trinidad and Cal Thompson both stole a pair of bases.
  • Alex Saavedra earned the win on the mound.
 
Game Three Highlights
  • Trinity kept Bowdoin off the board until the ninth inning.
  • The Bantams scored 14 runs by the end of the fourth inning.
  • Rudy Gately and Jacob Warren combined for four shutout innings to close out the game. Gately fanned three batters.
  • Bowdoin stranded eight runners on base.
  • Tsai, Gabe Peckler, and Richie McNamara all hit doubles as Tsai and McNamara both had multi-hit games.
 
Up Next
  • The Polar Bears will play a NESCAC Quarterfinal series at Amherst next weekend. Bowdoin earned the #3 seed in the NESCAC East and face the Mammoths who earned #2 in NESCAC West play.
