Baseball Defeats Amherst 4-2 in NESCAC Quarterfinal Game One

AMHERST, Mass. – The Bowdoin baseball team captured a 4-2 game one win against Amherst in their NESCAC Quarterfinal series opener.
 
Jason Bogdanos pitched a complete nine-inning game for the Polar Bears who finished #3 in the NESCAC East standings and improve to 18-15 overall. The Mammoths earned hosting rights with the #2 seed in the West and now have a 23-9 record.
 
Game Highlights
  • Amherst jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning, but Bowdoin responded in the second. CJ Brito-Trinidad doubled down the left field line to plate Chris Dirks.
  • Bowdoin took the lead in the fourth inning as Liam Foley tagged an RBI single to left that allowed Lukas Tsai to score.
  • Kevin Murray added a solo homerun in the sixth inning to make it 3-1.
  • With Brito-Trinidad on second and two outs on the board, Reuban Seigel singled to center in the seventh to make it 4-1.
  • Amherst came up with a two-out rally in the final inning, with three consecutive singles that allowed the Mammoths to make it 4-2.
  • Bogdanos induced a final groundout to the shortstop to end the game and earn the complete game win.
 
By the Numbers
  • Bogdanos scattered 11 hits over nine innings of work with a single walk and three strikeouts.
  • Foley was the lone Polar Bear with a multi-hit day, going 2-for-4 with an RBI.
  • Bowdoin stranded four base runners, including leaving Luke Chessie on the basepath twice.
