Errors Prove Costly in Softball Sweep at Colby

WATERVILLE, Maine – The Bowdoin softball team suffered a series sweep on Tuesday evening with 7-5 and 3-1 losses to Colby.
 
The Polar Bears are 21-11 with a 5-7 record in conference play. The Mules are 14-14 overall and 6-6 in NESCAC action.
 
Game One Highlights
  • Bowdoin carried a 4-0 lead into the fourth inning, before a single swing tied the game for Colby.
  • The Polar Bears were up 2-0 after Chloe Garcia hit an RBI single to left and Kyla Gary later scored by stealing home.
  • Bowdoin added a two-run third as Anika Ewert scored on an error and JK Bradley hit an RBI single to center.
  • The grand slam in the fourth tied the game for Colby.
  • An error in the sixth gave the Mules three more runs.
  • Shea Sullivan plated Ellie Sullivan in the seventh, doubling to center, but the Polar Bears could not close the gap.
  • Kathleen Hester suffered the loss with four hits allowed and three strikeouts.
  • Ewert and Bradley both had multi-hit games. Ewert had three stolen bases.
 
Game Two Highlights
  • Errors plagued the Polar Bears again as Colby went ahead 1-0 in the third.
  • Colby added two more runs in the fourth off a double.
  • Bowdoin finally found its offensive footing in the sixth as Garcia drove in Ewert.
  • Maddie Current pitched a complete game for Bowdoin and allowed five hits and three runs. Current fanned four batters.
  • Bowdoin combined for four hits, two coming off the bat of Elise Siciliano.
  • Ewert added to her single season stolen base record with another two.
