Baseball Beats Bates In Game That Started in Lewiston and Ended In Brunswick

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin baseball team came back to defeat Bates 12-7 in a rescheduled and halted game that started at Bates over a week ago and finished on Pickard Field Wednesday night.
 
The Polar Bears are 15-13 on the season with a 4-4 NESCAC record. The Bobcats call to 11-14 with a 2-6 conference record.
 
Game Highlights
  • The Bobcats were up 3-0 after two innings of action before the game was suspended in Lewiston a week ago.
  • Bates added two more runs in the third in, in Brunswick, to make it 5-0.
  • Bowdoin began to rally in the middle innings as Chris Dirks drove in Luke Chessie.
  • Reuban Siegel put the ball in play and allowed two runs to score, pulling the Polar Bears within two.
  • Kevin Murray followed up with an RBI single to make it a one-run game.
  • In the bottom of the fifth, Bates pushed its edge back to two with an RBI double.
  • A big sixth inning put Bowdoin ahead 8-6. Liam Foley recorded a sacrifice fly RBI, and Cal Thompson had an RBI groundout. Ben McKenzie tagged a triple to right that plated two runs.
  • Bowdoin extended its lead in the top of the seventh, capped by a two-run Thompson single through the right side.
  • Bates got one run in their last inning but could not erase the gap.
 
By the Numbers
  • Murry and Chris Dirks both had multi-hit games.
  • Bowdoin scored 12 runs on nine hits, capitalizing on costly Bates errors.
  • Luca McKerley Coronado pitched 2.1 innings and allowed four runs off three hits.
  • Connor Cassady, Ryan Novitski, and Chessie combined to complete the game, each allowing one run. Novitski struck out four batters in three innings of work to earn the win.
