Bobcats and Polar Bears Split Results on Sunday Afternoon

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin softball team split its Sunday series with Bates to sit at .500 in conference play.
 
The Polar Bears are 21-9 with a 5-5 record in NESCAC play. The Bobcats are 7-16 (4-8 NESCAC). Bowdoin cruised to a 9-1 six inning win in game one, but could not complete the late rally in a 6-3 game two setback.
 
 
Game One Highlights
  • The Bobcats jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning, but wouldn't round the bases again in five more innings of attempts.
  • Liv Barrett tied the game for Bowdoin in the bottom of the second, doubling to center and plating JK Bradley.
  • Chloe Garcia drove in the run that gave Bowdoin the lead it would never relinquish. Garcia singled to the outfield and allowed Anika Ewert to score.
  • The Polar Bears scored five runs in the fourth inning, beginning with a two-run double by Penelope Fong-Picariello.
  • Kyla Gary drove in two more runs with a single up the middle and came around to score of Elise Siciliano's single.
  • Siciliano recorded another RBI in the sixth and Bradley hit a walkoff single to end the game.
  • Maddie Current went the distance with four hits allowed and one run. Current struck out five batters and picked up her eighth win of the season.
  • Every Bowdoin batter had a least one hit in the game. Gary was 2-for-3 with two RBIs, two runs scored, and a walk.
  • Siciliano and Fong-Picariello both also drove in a pair of runs.
 
Game Two Highlights
  • The game remained scoreless until the top of the third when Bates had a two-run blast to left that put them ahead 2-0.
  • A pair of doubles in the fourth gave the Bobcats a 5-0 lead and the visitors added a sixth run in the sixth.
  • Bowdoin rallied in the sixth and found three runs.
  • Sydney Lang, Bradley, and Ellie Sullivan all had RBI singles.
  • Anika Ewert and Lang were the two Polar Bears with a multi-hit game.
  • Ava Biasotti suffered the loss with four innings of work and five runs allowed off seven hits.
