Men's Lacrosse Loses First NESCAC Contest of Season at Wesleyan

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The Bowdoin College men's lacrosse team suffered an 16-12 setback to Wesleyan University on Saturday afternoon, taking its first NESCAC conference loss of the campaign. The 14th-ranked Cardinals move to 11-3 (7-2 NESCAC) on the season while the Polar Bears fall to 10-3 (8-1 NESCAC).

Game Highlights
  • The Cardinals jumped to an early lead out of the gate, scoring the first four goals of the contest before Bowdoin settled in.
  • A pair of goals by Jason Lach keyed a 4-1 run by the Polar Bears that cut the lead to 5-4 late in the period.
  • GK Giancola scored the next three goals for Wesleyan to give the hosts some cushion, before three consecutive goals by Will Byrne cut it to a one-goal game again. Wesleyan carried a slim 9-7 lead into halftime.
  • The third quarter doomed the Polar Bears, however, as the Cardinals scored six unanswered goals to push their lead to eight, 15-7, by the end of the frame.
  • Bowdoin outscored Wesleyan 5-1 in the fourth, but it was too late as the Cardinals hung on to win.
By The Numbers Up Next
  • Bowdoin will face Tufts on Wednesday evening in Medford, Mass., at 7:00 p.m. The winner will be the top seed for the upcoming NESCAC Tournament which begins on Saturday, April 27.
